Thankful Thursday – What are you thankful for this week?

Spread the love

Hello Everyone!

What are you thankful for this week?

I am thankful for

  1. Electric

This post will be a little late this morning due to a power outage this morning. This is the second time in two weeks that I have gotten up to get ready for work and did not have any electric. See last week’s post by clicking here.

This problem inspired the first of the Thankful Thursday’s posts. I was so thankful for my cell phone for waking me up with the alarm and its flashlight for illuminating my way around in the darkness of the early morning.

So, needless to say, my cell phone saved the day again. This leads me to that luxury that I’m thankful for today. Electricity!

Many of us, including myself, take this utility for granted. But it is estimated that one quarter of the world’s population lives without electricity today. I feel very humbled and selfish when I complain about my lack of electricity for a few hours.

However, I spent the morning grumbling to myself as I tried to find clothes for me and the two kids. We managed to find what we needed and get dressed within a reasonable amount of time.

My biggest dilemma of the morning had to be taken care of at work. Since I had washed my hair the night before, I had let it drip dry. My plan was to curl and style my hair this morning. I do not look very well kept in the mornings. My daughter-in-law actually refers to her kids uncombed, bedhead hair as mama hair. I had to go to work.

To solve this problem, I packed up my hairbrush, hairspray, and curling iron and fixed my hair in my classroom before the students came rolling in. Thank goodness, the school had electric.

2. Family members who off work

Since my husband, my daughter who lives with us, and myself all work outside of the home, when something comes up, someone ends up having to take a day off work.

My grandson called from the middle school this morning complaining that his stomach was hurting with diarrhea. I was the only one that could have left to get him. I really hated to do that since we already had a teacher out of our unit. Her students had already been distributed throughout the unit.

Luckily, my son was home from his job on the boat, so he was able to go pick him up. I am very thankful that he was not working today and could save the rest of us from missing a day’s work.

The third thing I’m thankful for today is

3. students who have a great artistic ability.

One of my jobs as a teacher is decorating bulletin boards. I try to change these at least once a month. Since I also teach art, I try to involve the students in the process of decorating new boards.

This month the students each made a hot air balloon so they could Fly Into Spring.  After they made their balloons and I printed out pictures of them to put in the balloon baskets, we felt that the board was missing something.

I volunteered our student artist to add to the board. He, on his own, added the Yellow Brick Road, the Emerald City, and the characters from the Wizard of Oz.  He drew the characters, the road and trees, and the characters, free handed.  He really helps with bulletin boards and other artistic endeavors. He made a game for one the aide’s birthday parties.

Now if we can channel his artistic ability into a vocation.

These are the 3 things that I am thankful for today. What are you thankful for?

My life verse.
